The romance of island living without the inconvenience of ferry schedules.

Located 80 miles north of Seattle and 90 miles south of Vancouver, B.C., Anacortes on Fidalgo Island is positioned squarely between these two cities and residents enjoy the best of both. The Island is accessible by any of three bridges which connect it to larger land masses, allowing residents the romantic notion of island living without the inconvenience of ferry schedules.

Anacortes is widely known as the departure point for the San Juan Islands and the picturesque popularity of these islands has earned the city the tag, The Gateway to the San Juans.

The enfolding presence of water.

If you are hopelessly drawn to the presence of water, Fidalgo Island will not disappoint you. Encircled by Puget Sound waters and dotted by seven lakes, you can hardly journey anywhere without sensing its enfolding presence. Water anchors the community. It provides an economic backbone, both past and present; is a medium for transportation and provides endless recreational opportunities.

Stunning views and forested serenity at your doorstep.

One comes to expect nothing short of stunning views from nearly every margin of Fidalgo Island. Sparkling waters, island profiles, the immense presence of Mt. Baker and two snow-capped mountain ranges form the daily visual stream for anyone traversing the island. The residents of Anacortes value the sheer beauty of their land as well; twenty two hundred acres have been set aside as dedicated Community Forest Lands. These wooded areas with extensive trail systems assure residents a piece of quiet green serenity at their very doorstep.

A quaint downtown sector that serves the needs of business and pleasure.

A fashionable collection of businesses and services form the quaint Anacortes downtown sector. Carefree tourists browse galleries and specialty stores or bustling residents conduct urgent business. The walkable downtown enables those in adjoining neighborhoods to easily stroll to town for a book browse or an evening meal and music.

Cultural and recreational opportunity surround Fidalgo Island residents.

Situated amidst valley farmlands, off shore islands, inlet waters and snowy peaks, Fidalgo Island is surrounded by recreational opportunities yet basks in the shadows of culture and commerce. Residents can make a quick jaunt southward into Seattle or northward into Vancouver, BC to absorb the sparkle and pulse of a city. Traveling westward over Puget Sound waters, a ferry ride brings travelers to Victoria, the waterfront capital of British Columbia.
